8/8/2023 Angel Fire, NM – Local bear and known rabble-rouser Wojtek was spotted yesterday deliberately reading a bear crossing sign incorrectly in Angel Fire. This rebel bear has a reputation for purposefully flouting rules and doing the exact opposite of signs. The sign clearly depicts a bear walking to the left, but Wojtek deliberately approached the sign from the opposite direction.
“Yep, that’s Wojtek for you. He knew exactly what he was doing,” said city official John Davis. “He loves trolling our signs and going the wrong way. We’ve tried explaining proper sign reading etiquette, but he just snorts and moseys on, contrary as always.”
This time Wojtek took his time puzzling over the sign in an exaggerated fashion by tracing the picture on the sign slowly with his claw as if he didn’t understand. He even turned around butt facing the sign looking at the sign upside down between his legs before sauntering across the road in the exact opposite direction. City officials had erected the bear crossing signs last spring to reduce bear-vehicle collisions, but the insubordinate Wojtek seems intent on breaking the rules.
“That bear has real authority issues. He loves taunting us by disobeying these signs,” said Davis. “Hopefully this rebellious phase passes before he winds up hurt. For now, we just have to accept his sign-flouting hijinks and try to keep everyone safe.”
Officials are debating what to do about the chronically disobedient Wojtek, whose antics set a poor example for bear cubs and children alike. In the meantime, they can only shake their heads and wait for this delinquent bear to finally wise up.
