2/13/2024 New York – Former President Donald Trump made some eyebrow-raising remarks today about NATO countries that don’t send him Valentine’s Day cards.
“You know, I’ve done so much for NATO. So much,” Trump said in an interview. “But do you think most of those countries bother to send me a nice Valentine? No. It’s disgraceful. Sad, really.”
Trump went on to urge NATO member nations to send him Valentine’s Day cards and messages of appreciation. Trump said even just a simple handwritten note from NATO countries would warm his heart. He recommended NATO members keep their Valentines simple and thoughtful.
“Don’t worry about going overboard. Just a nice handwritten note saying ‘Dear President Trump, thanks for having our backs’ will do,” Trump said. “Maybe draw a little heart. Include some sparkles if you want to get fancy.”
Trump stressed that expensive chocolates or elaborate flower arrangements were not necessary.
“I’m a simple man with simple Valentine’s Day needs,” Trump said. “Just write down ‘You’re NATO-rific!’ on a card made of construction paper. That would make my day. I’m just saying, it couldn’t hurt to take five minutes and put a sweet little message in the mail to me,” Trump said. “It’s V-Day after all. Spread the love.”
Trump went on to say that any NATO member nation that fails to send him a Valentine’s Day note should watch their back implying failure to send Valentines could damage relations with the U.S. going forward.
“I’d tell Putin, do whatever the hell you want with them,” Trump said. “No Valentine, no defense from me. I’ll look the other way if Russia wants to walk right in and take over. It would serve them right for not appreciating me on the most romantic day of the year.”
Critics called Trump’s comments “deeply concerning” and questioned his commitment to the alliance. However, Trump dismissed the criticism as “fake news.”
“Come on,” Trump said. “It would be nice once in a while if these countries showed a little love for all I’ve done. Is a nicely worded Valentine’s message too much to ask? Just because I’m not president anymore doesn’t mean NATO forgot me,” Trump said. “NATO loved me the most. Great camaraderie, there. Nice people, even. Well, maybe,” Trump concluded.
NATO member nations said they would take Trump’s suggestion “under careful consideration” but made no commitments to send him Valentines at this time.
