11/2/2023 Tokyo – A case of unfortunate branding has led to embarrassment for Japan’s largest airline ANA. The airline’s logo spells out ANA horizontally with each letter in blue and a plane’s tail at the end causing some travelers to read it as “anal.”
Several passengers have booked flights on ANA expecting to join the “Mile High Club” of sexual encounters on planes, only to be sorely disappointed.
“I saw their logo and thought, ‘Finally, an airline that’s open about catering to people’s needs up there,’” said one passenger who wished to remain anonymous. “Let’s just say the flight attendants gave me some weird looks when I asked about the complimentary lubricant.”
Another passenger booked a ticket thinking the airline’s name was meant to be humorous. “I figured it was a sort of cheeky joke, you know? So I thought I’d have a good laugh and book a flight for a bachelor party. But there was no nudity or debauchery whatsoever. Just tiny bags of nuts on board.”
ANA officials were baffled by the increase in passengers asking about joining the Mile High Club before takeoff. “We just thought people were really excited about their flights for some reason,” said an ANA spokesperson.
“In retrospect, I can see how our logo could be misconstrued if someone’s mind is in the gutter. But this is a professional airline, not some weird sex club in the sky.”
The spokesperson suggested that ANA may need to alter its branding to avoid further confusion. Proposed logo redesigns include removal of the mistaken “L”.
For now, the airline has settled for putting out a statement clarifying they are “ANA” with three distinct letters and that no erotic activities will be permitted on board. Several disappointed passengers have already asked for refunds.
