New Poll Confirms: $29 Million Salary Is Basically Poverty Level In USA

9/15/2023 Detroit – A new poll conducted today has revealed the vast majority of Americans struggle to comprehend how someone could possibly survive on an annual salary of just $29 million, such as General Motors CEO Mary Barra.

The poll was conducted amidst a United Auto Workers strike against GM, Ford, and Stellantis over issues like wages, benefits, and job security. When informed that Mary Barra took home total compensation of $29 million yearly, a full 87% of respondents said they simply could not envision how someone could live a fulfilling life on such a paltry sum.

“I honestly don’t know how Barra does it,” said survey respondent Frank Carlson of Toledo, Ohio. “I mean, how do you feed your family and keep the lights on when you’re barely scraping by on $29 million a year? It must be absolutely harrowing for that poor woman.”

“If I had to get by on that kind of pay, I’d probably have to give up simple luxuries like regular caviar facials,” he added.

Additionally, 76% of those surveyed said they would likely need government assistance if they had to subsist on Barra’s miserly $29 million compensation. Many expressed deep admiration for her financial discipline and ability to pinch pennies.

“Mary Barra is an inspiration to us all,” said another respondent, Sarah Fitzpatrick of Detroit. “The fact that she can provide for her family and afford basic healthcare on $29 million shows it can be done, even under the most challenging circumstances.”

In an exclusive interview with JournalistBS, Barra stated, “I’ve really had to cut back on non-essential expenses this year. When dining out, I ask the staff not to go overboard sprinkling my desserts with gold flakes. Just a pinch still provides that upscale flair without being ostentatious. It’s all about being economical.”

“Another cost savings example: my 50 live in staff may seem excessive to some, it’s actually quite a lean team compared to others in my tax bracket. I can’t be expected to prepare my own caviar blinis,” laughed Barra.

“At the end of the day, minor cutbacks help me graciously survive on my humble salary while setting a prudent example that living on $29 million is possible,” she concluded.

The poll results highlight the deep economic anxiety currently gripping working-class Americans, many of whom would apparently need to make drastic lifestyle changes if forced to live on CEO salaries.
