9/6/2023 Cleveland – The National Association of Annoying Salespeople (NAAS) held a rally today to protest the increasing use of call screening technologies that block unwanted robocalls and cold calls. They say this tech is destroying the ability to connect with potential customers and make a living.
“It’s gotten to the point where when I dial a number, I don’t even get a person anymore!” exclaimed Brad Worthington, a member of NAAS. “I just get these awful robot voices asking for my name and company. How am I supposed to launch into my scripted sales pitch if I can’t even speak to a human?”
Many salespeople argue that screening calls dehumanizes the process and makes it impossible to employ their charisma and charm through the phone. They believe it violates their right to free speech and the pursuit of commissions.
“We have families and quotas to meet,” said Jeanie Matthews, a vacuum telemarketer. “If someone doesn’t want to buy from me, they can hang up. But don’t take away my ability to get through in the first place!”
The group is demanding that all call screening and robocall blocking technology be made illegal. They want mandatory waiting periods before any call can be rejected, giving sales reps time to make their pitch first.
Critics counter that these technologies protect privacy and prevent harassment from unwanted callers. But the salespeople are standing firm, saying they will lobby politicians and file lawsuits if needed to regain the ability to bother people during dinner unimpeded.
