Murder Suspect: It’s Too Hot Outside

7/10/2023 Warren PA – A prison escapee in Pennsylvania decided to turn himself in after spending a few days in the sweltering heat on Monday. Michael Charles Burham, who was serving a sentence for arson and burglary and a murder suspect in another case, managed to slip out of the Warren County Prison Friday. He soon realized that his freedom came at a high price: the unbearable summer weather.

“I couldn’t take it anymore, man. It was too hot outside. I felt like I was melting,” Burham told reporters as he was escorted back to his cell. “I thought maybe I could find some shade or a water fountain, but there was nothing. Just sun and asphalt. I knew I had no chance against Mother Nature.”

Burham said he decided to give up around 1 p.m., when he saw a police car parked near a convenience store. He walked up to the officer and confessed that he was the escaped prisoner they were looking for. The officer, who was surprised by Burham’s surrender, said he was glad that the situation ended peacefully.

“He was very cooperative, polite, and covered in sweat,” the officer said. “He said he just wanted to go back to his air-conditioned cell and watch some TV. He said prison wasn’t so bad after all.”

Burham is now facing additional charges for escaping custody, but he said he doesn’t regret his decision.

“It was a stupid idea, I know. But I had to try it. You never know until you try, right?” Burham said. “But trust me, it’s not worth it. Freedom is overrated when it’s this hot outside.”
