5/28/2023 Atlanta – The Georgia Department of Drivers’ Services (DDS) has issued a stern warning to drivers who are tempted to spice up their digital driver’s license or ID photos: Keep your clothes on!
The DDS posted on Facebook today that it has received several photos from drivers who apparently forgot to dress appropriately for the occasion: applying for a government document, not auditioning for a reality show.
“Some of the photos we’ve seen are downright scandalous,” said DDS spokesperson Kelly Smith. “We’ve had people posing in lingerie, bikinis, thongs, and even nothing at all. One guy sent us a photo of his junk with a smiley face sticker on it. That’s not what we meant by ‘face recognition’.”
Smith said that the DDS has a strict policy of rejecting any photos that do not meet the official requirements, which include wearing appropriate clothing, having a neutral expression, and looking directly at the camera.
“We’re not here to judge your lifestyle choices, but we do have standards,” Smith said. “Your driver’s license or ID is a legal document that you may need to present in various situations, such as voting, banking, or traveling. Do you really want to show your bare chest or your butt crack to a TSA agent or a police officer?”
Smith also said that the DDS has been flooded with complaints from drivers who received their digital licenses or IDs from the DDS cameras and were unhappy with how they looked. Some of the responses they received included:
- “Wow, you guys really know how to make me look like a potato.”
- “Thanks for making me look like I have a double chin and a lazy eye. You must be using the same camera as my ex.”
- “Is this a driver’s license or a mugshot? I look like I just robbed a bank.”
- “Can I get a refund? This photo is worse than the one on my Costco card.”
- “Who do I sue for defamation? You just ruined my chances of ever getting laid again.”
- “Did you use Photoshop to make me look uglier?”
“Some people have unrealistic expectations of how they will appear on a small screen,” Smith said. “They think they can use filters, stickers, or emojis to enhance their photos, but that’s not how it works. We use a high-resolution camera that captures every detail of your face, including your wrinkles, blemishes, and facial hair. If you don’t like what you see, maybe you should invest in some skincare products or a razor instead of blaming us.”
The DDS will continue to allow individuals to submit their own photos for electronic identifications, but they do not replace physical ID’s. Additionally, they are reminding Georgia residents to keep the photos clean.
