According to a recent study, children are losing their sense of wonder and awe at the world around them, and experts say it’s all because of the crushing weight of existence and the fact that adults are a bunch of jerks.
“It’s really sad to see,” said child psychologist Dr. Jane Smith. “Kids used to be so curious and full of wonder, but now they just seem bored and apathetic. It’s like they’ve given up on life.”
Experts say that the problem stems from a variety of factors, including the fact that kids are bombarded with so much information these days that it’s hard for them to process it all.
“They’re constantly being fed data and statistics about the world, and it’s overwhelming for them,” said Dr. Smith. “Plus, the world can be a really scary place, and that can be hard for kids to handle.”
But perhaps the biggest reason for the loss of wonder is the behavior of adults.
“Let’s face it, adults are jerks,” said child development expert Dr. John Doe. “We’re always telling kids what to do, how to act, what to believe. We’ve sucked all the joy and magic out of the world, and it’s no wonder kids have lost their sense of wonder.”
Doe went on to say that adults need to do more to encourage children to explore and discover the world around them.
“We need to stop being so uptight and let kids be kids,” he said. “We need to let them climb trees and play in the mud and explore their imaginations. That’s the only way they’re going to regain their sense of wonder.”
In the meantime, kids continue to stare blankly into the void, wondering what the point of it all is. And who can blame them? With the world in its current state, it’s hard to find anything to be excited about.
“Sometimes I just want to scream,” said 10-year-old Tommy Johnson. “But what’s the point? The universe is vast and uncaring, and we’re all just tiny specks floating in it. It’s all so meaningless.”
Experts say that Tommy’s sentiments are all too common these days, and that we need to do more to help kids find meaning and purpose in their lives.
“But let’s be real, it’s a pretty tall order,” said Dr. Smith. “In the end, we’re all just staring into the abyss, wondering what it’s all for.”
